New Wheelchair!

Yo! So, lack of updates due to working hardcore at my new job. It’s literally only a couple of blocks from my house, so I don’t have to wheel too far OR depend on rides from my roommate, Crobat! It’s pretty good.
Anyway, I picked up my wheelchair this morning! It’s a Quickie Q7 chair, with removable plastic side guards, swing away armrests, and an angle adjustable footplate. It’s pretty snazzy.

It’s fancy! It rolls so smoothly, and I absolutely love the color. I wasn’t sure if I would like it, but I definitely do. I might switch out the hand rims for my current ones, to keep them nice and all, but we’ll see. The back also folds and the push handles fold down as well! I was also given a Jay Basic cushion, so hopefully, that one does the trick for me. They tried to get a fancier cushion approved, but Medicare wasn’t having that. So, simple cushion instead.
So far, even though I’ve only been in it for a few minutes, it’s definitely much, much more comfortable than my previous one, which was two inches too narrow and one inch too short. It makes a huge difference! I also like the open frame design much better. I feel like it’s kinda sleek, yknow?
Anyhow, that’s my new chair. More pictures to come, but yeah! :D I love it so far. I’ll review it again in a couple days after I’ve had a chance to use it more.

Anxiety! Aahhhhhhh!!!

So, things are going well, but I’m dealing with way too much anxiety today!!! D:  My psychiatrist always asks me, “On a scale of 1-10, one being nirvana and ten being spontaneous human combustion, how is your anxiety today?” Today, my anxiety is like a 9. I’m ready to cry and hold my blankie and lament about how my life is awful, but I have to remember and remind myself that this is entirely normal. When  you settle from a big chance, when things start going your way, you’re more likely to have a big break. You’ll break down, you’ll cry and lament exactly as I said, about how your life is terrible and you’ll probably never amount to anything anyway so what’s the point in continuing on, and you’ve made so many mistakes, there’s just no point!

But, in reality, there’s totally a point. If I had stopped working so hard, if I hadn’t kept going and making those stressful phone calls and all that shit, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I wouldn’t be on the verge of getting a new wheelchair, I wouldn’t be on the verge of having a bedroom, I wouldn’t have new, awesome hearing aids, I wouldn’t have the great roommate I have today, I wouldn’t have a job in my own town a block away from my house. I’d be so lost and in such a crap situation.

Anyhow, aside from dealing with so much anxiety, we have a plumber coming today to fix the toilet. It’s been costing us sooo much money because of some flow thing in the back of it that has basically been filling up and using way more water than necessary, so our water usage went from 2,000-2,500 gallons per month to approximately 11,000 gallons last month! And in the last two weeks, it had been 9,000 gallons already! So, wow!!! We’re on the hook for all that water, but that’s okay. Our landlord fixed it so that the toilet wasn’t using that much water, and we were just using a bucket to fill the back of the toilet and whatnot. It’s kind of a pain, ever so slightly, but it works, and it saves us money. <:

That’s about all that I’m dealing with right now. The wheelchair post will come probably next week or the day after, so! Be prepared for that! It’s gonna be sweeeet! :D

Grey Hair and New Aids!

So, I promised to post about my new hearing aids today, so here it is! These were obtained in the middle beginning of May- on my birthday, actually- and were programmed at the end of the month, so I’ve been hearing out of them for about 11 days or so.

These are the Oticon Chili SP9 hearing aids with no pimpage….

And here was one of my favorite pimps on them over the past few days….

awiunjk

And here’s a more…photogenic version of that pimp, earmolds included.

umzdt4z

ALSO I got new earmolds! Those swirly colorful ones up there are great, but I wanted something a little more…flashy. So, here we go.

7utq5gk

Don’t mind the little fuzz in the side of the picture! Lol.

Anyway, the Chili sounds great. It’s crisp and clear, though sometimes it can be too crisp, I suppose after I’ve been hearing for too long and I’m just tired of it (sensory overload! woo!). But, it sounds great, even better than the last ones I had. Also, I can change programs on BOTH hearing aids by pressing the button on only ONE! :D I’m thrilled about that one, to be honest. The volume wheel is a little annoying, but not so bad, and I have a huge amount of volume control. It’s got other fancy features as well, but that’s the main one that interests me. <:

Any suggestions for my next pimp? You should send me links to (peel-off) nail stickers! Small decorative stickers work great too to go on top of the nail wraps. :D

That’s all for today. I’m off!

Back (again!) and With News! (and bitching about the ex)

Hello, all! :D  So, I did another weird  sabbatical, mostly simply because I keep forgetting this blog is here. Lol. Anyhow, I’m back, and I’m gonna try even harder this time to update at least once a week, even if it’s just a post about my new hair color or a picture of my dog!

Things have been…. Well, not great, but they’re seriously getting better! So, here’s the rundown. This is gonna be a long post.

So, roommate R is the crappy one. Roommate A, for sake of ease, is referred to as Crobat from here on out, and Crobat, basically, is the best, most wonderful, sweetest person in the world.

R is less than that, by far. R is…selfish. He’s messy af. He makes himself coffee and cereal, and uses sugar, but won’t even put his sugar and coffee creamer away, and then he leaves sugar scattered all over the stove and counter. It’s come to it that Crobat and I have asked him to clean up after himself, and he just outright lies and says he DOES and DID clean up, but it’s a clear lie?? He lies right to our faces and then gets upset at us for calling him out on being a liar. His ONE chore in the entire house is to feed his cat and my dog at night, around 9-11 PM. Half the time, he refuses to do so, and asks Crobat to do it, and because Crobat is such a nice person, she does it without complaint. He has been using my bathroom stuff, including my towel to dry himself with, and then lies about using it.

The biggest issue of all is that he’s not going to be able to afford to pay rent for July, and for the past several months, he hasn’t paid for utilities or internet at all. On top of that, his pets have damaged the carpet and one of the doors so badly they have to be patched and replaced (respectively), and all together, the damage to the apartment is gonna be a good $500 or so, and he has no intention of paying to fix any of it. He’s just going to move out and leave it.

Oh, yeah, he’s moving out. Crobat seems to have gotten annoyed enough with him that she’s putting her foot down and has made the decision that R needs to move out as soon as the end of the month. We’re waiting to give him the news until after a certain small event, so as not to ruin said small event. But he’s moving out! And I’ll get to move back into the bedroom and have an actual bedroom!! :D I can’t believe it, I’m so excited.

Also, yesterday, I told R off through Skype because he wasn’t answering my messages, and he has a tendency to ignore messages if he doesn’t like what it has to say or he’ll just pretend he didn’t get the message at all. I called him out on it and said that THAT is why he needs to reply to my messages. Apparently, he got all pissy and went to Crobat and tried to bitch about me being, y’know, a bitch, but Crobat wasn’t having it and basically just ignored it haha. Which only made R pissier, I’m sure! LOL thinking about it makes me ugly-laugh.

Overall, I’m just so mad that I moved here for him and this is how he turned out. I’m so frustrated and annoyed. It shouldn’t have been this way. I shouldn’t have had to live in the living room for fucking, like, what, 3 months? Almost 4 months? I shouldn’t have been so angry for so long. But, at least now, I get to take this back to my therapist and have good news for once. <:

Tomorrow, I’m going to post about my new hearing aids, which have finally been programmed, and I also have 2 new sets of earmolds! So, that’s something cool and new to talk about! :D I’ve also pimped them a bunch recently, so there’ll be pictures of that, too. For now, I’m signing off to go shower and shave my head! <: See ya!

Update: 4/20

So, it’s been another several months since I last updated. I’m not very good at blogging, but I’m trying to get better!

I have broken up with my boyfriend since my last post. It’s kind of a long story, but long story short, he displays a complete lack of respect or care for anyone but himself, and is rather frightening in his lack of individuality. He tends to copy people, and I’ve noticed he copies me quite a lot. I understand it’s likely primarily due to identity impermanence from BPD, but I don’t think that’s an excuse. So, breaking up with him meant that I have moved my things to the living room, and I live there now! It’s pretty comfortable, and I have a nice window where the cats can rest and look out onto the street below.

I have new hearing aids, as well! They’ll get here around mid-May, and I’ll have them programmed then, and then I’ll have pictures. For now, they are silver Oticon Chili SP9, so they’re not the most recent, but they’re top of the line for the model. I’ve found that I prefer Oticon’s sound to Phonak’s, because Phonak sounds a bit noisy and hazy. The only thing I dislike about Oticon is that the sound is very, very crisp. I’m hoping that having these programmed in the office will make it easier to find what I like and don’t like, so adjustments can be made right there with no issue. I already have new earmolds, and my tubing is bright purple, too! I can’t wait to get them. Here is what my current hearing aids look like right now:

HAs.jpg

They’re pretty cute! But, my new ones will be larger, and will help me hear much better. The earmolds are new- orange/purple/light green silicone with a shiny finish, full shell, with a large vent. To be honest, the fact that my right tubing is longer than the left bothers me greatly! I know it has to be that way, because that’s simply how my ears are, but it’s bothersome! OCD problems, weh. The earmolds are great, though- my last silicone ones were from Sam’s Club, and they started to cause pressure sores.

Health-wise, I have been rather…eh. I have been dealing with severe ear pain and pressure for a long time now, and I thought it was an ear infection, but it turns out that it is eustachian tube dysfunction. I have a bunch of fluid behind my ear drums, and it’s causing pressure and pain! I was prescribed Prednisone and a decongestant to see if it would help, but it did nothing but make me feel sickly, so instead, I have an appointment to see an ENT in mid-May. The next step is probably going to be ear tubes to relieve the pressure and let the fluid drain. The doctor I saw for it was wonderful, though. She is patient and kind, and does not find me to be a problem- just a complex case!

Aside from the eustachian tube stuff, I’m dealing with mysterious head pain on the left side, so we’re looking into that more. I’ve had an MRI, which came back clean, so the next step is a neurologist. I’ve also been severely fatigued, moreso than usual. It makes it difficult to stand for more than a few moments. I only feel semi-decent so long as I’m lying down. It’s been going on for a while.

Other than all that, there isn’t much to report! I’ll try and get a video update out soon. I just have to wait until I have the house to myself!

I’ve been gone an age!

So, I’ve been gone a while! It’s been very busy!

First, I moved to Virginia, and not long after that, I moved to Des Moines, Iowa! Well, near there. It’s a smaller town and it’s kinda quaint, but it’s not bad here! Unfortunately, the entire area tends to smell a little bit- kind of like dog dung, haha! Evidently this is due to a pig slaughtering plant nearby, and it is actually the smell of dead, rotting pig. Mm-mmm. Delicious….

I now live with 2 people- my boyfriend Rowan, and our good friend/family member Amber. We still have both dogs and 3 cats now, and they’re all settling in well to their new home.

I’ve re-done my hearing aids a few times in the past months, but so far my favorite is this one- it makes me feel like I’m wearing galaxies in my ears! The earmolds are candy purple acrylic with green glitter in them and I’m in absolute love. I also received these cute Chi’s Sweet Home tube riders from EarSuspenders on Etsy the same day I got my earmolds! They’re just DARLING, even if they’re a little large, and I’m also in love with them.

Previous pimp with Duck Tape! Changed it the same day!

My previous earmolds were this bright orange-red color. They were cool and all, but they were silicone, and that made them more difficult to insert. These acrylic ones are much easier to put in, and I think they look cooler, as they’re skeleton molds instead of full shell!

I’ve also recently had these Tube Twists from Hayleigh’s Cherished Charms on Etsy! They were soft and stretchy- much softer than I thought they’d be, but there ya go. They were rainbow ones, and I loved them, but they kinda put pressure on my ears cause I have such tiny ears. >:  My tubes are very small cause I have such tiny ears, so the tube twists were just a little too long for comfort. But! They were super cool and I recommend them to everyone else who has big enough ears to wear them.

We also moved house! So now instead of the big house, we’re in a small 2 bedroom apartment ion which I share a room with my boyfriend, Rowan, and Amber has her own room. It’s a little odd of a place, but it’s lovely and it already feels like home.

Finally, I was hired on at Target! It’s been fabulous and I’m so happy to have something to do 2-3 days a week. It’s the perfect job for me right now, and I meet some lovely people that come through my line.

Other than that, I haven’t had much going on! I’m pretty boring otherwise. <:  Thanks for reading, all! :D

Knitted 3 hats in 2 days!

So I guess I’ve been on a hat kick lately. I started with this hat, the green and purple one….

It took a little longer because the yarn weight was closer to chunky, but I did it on 9mm, 16 inch circular needles. I cast on 52 stitches, using Michael’s Charisma yarn and a long-tail cast on, and did k1p1 ribbing for maybe five rows or so? Then I knitted all the way until the top, started decreasing, et voila. I use this method to make all hats pretty much!

After that one, I worked on this, a fuzzy pink hat for my friend Tori (over at crystallinestarflakes).

I like the way this one came out, a lot! I used some Isaac Mizrahi Craft yarn and this stuff is just lovely. It’s super soft and plush, and very warm! This’ll make a great winter hat for xem, seeing as xe is in NY and the winters up there can get awful. It’s not quite slouchy, but it’s still lovely and fun and cute! I used 12mm, 16 inch circular needles, cast on 34 stitches, and did the same as above- k1p1 ribbing, followed by knitting the rest of it up. I almost wish I could keep this for myself, it’s so soft! I’ll have to make a matching one in a different color.

After that, I moved on to this one this morning. I didn’t take a flat picture, however.

This one is, again Isaac Mizrahi yarn. I love the entire collection of yarn, it’s all such fun colors, nice weights, and great textures! This yarn was less fluffy, but still called for large gauge needles- again 12mm, 16 inch circular needles. I cast on 36 stitches, long-tail cast on again, and the same as above- k1p1 rib, knit all the way up after a few rows. This one I worked up in about 3 hours this morning after I woke up and wanted something easy and fun to knit. This was JUST the thing! I had a good time with this, seeing as it worked up so fast. Watching your progress come together so quickly is just so satisfying, isn’t it?  <:

New wheelchair paint job!

image

So I painted my wheelchair this lovely blue color. I decided my footrest needed a little sprucing up as well, do I broke out the pink spray paint and went to town on that too. I also sprayed my hand rims with Plastidip, to increase the grip, but since I didn’t do it all the way around, it perked of this morning really easily. I’m gonna do it again in a couple days after I receive my new tires (which hopefully fit), cause taking the rims off is a huge pain in the butt.

Even though I only had the Plastidip on fit a few minutes, it DID increase the grip substantially. Also, it was black, so that’s cool.

Best Buy and The Terrible Customer Service: A Bedtime Story

So, for those not in the know, I got a new phone on August 11th. I purchased it through Best Buy, and we added a line onto my roommate’s/friend’s plan, so we’re saving a bunch of money each month. That’s great!

What was even greater at the time was that we were told we’d get a $200 gift card just for purchasing that phone that day! I also decided to use the gift card to purchase phone insurance, because it’s just my luck that I’ll drop and break this $650 device with no way to replace it, and I’d have to pay for it in the end (it’s a leased phone). We left the store thinking it was all good- that the phone was fine, insurance was in place, and that I had 30 days to return the phone if there was a problem with it.

This was not true.

About a day after getting the phone, it randomly restarted on its own. I assumed it was an update, because that happens, and ignored it. Then, about a week later, it happened again, except it happened repeatedly, where the phone would only stay on for a moment or two before restarting. It’d eventually stop and stay on, but a few hours later, it would do it again. I looked around online and everyone suggested a factory reset first and foremost, so I did that. Needless to say, the problem persisted- but only after the phone was fine for several days.

I spent ages trying to figure out what the problem was, because it seemed to happen after I opened up certain apps or changed settings; in the end, though, there was no explanation for it.

It was time to return the phone, 18 days after purchasing it.

For reference, we have a plan with Sprint, and I quite like their customer service agents- they’re really quite polite. To keep this part short, I returned to Best Buy for troubleshooting (only to be told I had 14 days, not 30), then was told to talk to Sprint, who told me to talk to Best Buy. Through all this, I was under the impression that the phone insurance purchased was in effect and I could use it.

Unfortunately, on our third trip to Best Buy, it was found that there was no insurance in place.

I had no idea how this could be, but then it dawned on me- the insurance never showed up on the receipt (we were told by the sales associate that it wouldn’t show up, but it was on our account!), and we were never given a partial gift card for the remainder of the $200 (insurance: $160).

Now, I have a couple theories as to why this is.

  1. The associate wanted to go home and was in a hurry, as this took place from about 8:30-9:15 at night on a Tuesday night.
  2. The associate stole the aforementioned gift card somehow and expected us not to notice.
  3. The Best Buy sales system screwed up somehow.

Personally, I feel like the gift card was stolen somehow, but I can’t be sure, especially because the gift card doesn’t show up in the system as having been created at all (though that doesn’t mean it wasn’t!).

So, today, 9/5/2015, I’m returning to the Best Buy store to speak to the managers Melissa and Latasha, and hopefully, they’ll be able to do something about this. They said they’d reach out to LG to replace the phone via the manufacturer’s warranty, but do it in-store, so that I won’t have to be without a phone while they dick around and send me another. Here’s hoping it all goes well.

For reference, the phone with the problem is the LG G4. Evidently, it’s a known problem, and the managers at Best Buy are aware that it has a hugely common problem with restarting automatically and getting stuck in restart loops. They believe it’s due to an update that was rolled out that users can not deny. Sprint’s recent problems with text messaging don’t seem to correlate, but here’s a list of all the problems I’ve had with Sprint/LG G4 since receiving the phone:

  1. LG G4 restarting automatically and repeatedly, getting stuck in restart loops
  2. Unable to access voicemail through Sprint, only able to access it via Google Voice
  3. Unable to receive phone calls through Sprint
  4. Unable to receive text messages through Sprint (but capable of receiving MMS)
  5. Hearing aid compatibility does not work

So, if you’re in the market for an LG G4, let me tell you- it’s a fantastic phone, and I would be SO happy with it if it weren’t for these issues. The double-tap to wake/sleep the phone is awesome, the volume is INCREDIBLE, the phone runs smoothly and quickly, and the screen resolution and color is just amazing. Word of caution, though: If it restarts on its own more than once, return it within 14 days. Please.

UPDATE: Waiting at Best Buy for phone exchange!
